Informational

For the safety of our staff, all Co-Lab studio locations will be unstaffed and operating in “self-service” mode starting Friday, January 30th at 8pm. This will continue for as long as the Severe Weather Policy is in place. Users should expect interruptions to 3D printer services until staffing resumes and filament can be refilled. We will share updates as more information becomes available.

Materials

Sergers work great on woven and nonwoven fabrics and other soft goods.

What to Bring

Bring whatever it is that you want to sew! It’ll be helpful to bring your own thread.

Pro Tips
  • When changing thread, it’s easier to tie the end of your new thread onto the end of your old thread and then pull it through. Re-threading the Serger can be a headache.
  • When in doubt, you can use the Brother 1034D serger manual.
FAQ
  • What's the difference between a Serger and an Overlock Machine?
    • They’re the same!

  • What does a Serger do?
    • The Serger is designed to make professional edges. It can sew seams, cut seam allowances, and finishes the raw fabric edges all in one go!

  • Can I use a Serger as a Sewing Machine?
    • No, Sergers and Sewing machines, while looking similar and working with similar materials, do completely different things. Sergers are very specialized while Sewing Machines have broader applications.
