Compact concentric tube robot actuation system for minimally invasive surgeries.

Timeline

Status: Active

Description

Concentric tube robots (CTRs) are a sub-type of continuum robots that have been explored for minimally invasive surgeries in tight human cavities. An existing issue with these robots is the large mechanisms required to properly and precisely control their movement. This limits their flexibility in the operating room and makes it difficult for surgeons to utilize them in many applications. This project seeks to develop a compact actuation system to operate the CTR with efficiency and accuracy similar to traditional methods.
